Dad alerted me this evening to a front page story in the Columbus Dispatch:
OSU Mourns Loss of Whitey, a SquirrelKent State may have lots of black squirrels, but Ohio State has an albino one, or I should say, used to.
Apparently a
Cooper's Hawk made a meal out of it on the South Oval last Friday afternoon! I guess there are pictures of it happening too, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find any.
That would be a pretty good story on its own, but I remembered as Dad was telling me this story that one Spring Quarter day a few of us walked over to the Oval after going to Pochi, and Carrie pointed out an albino squirrel. I took some pictures of it, or tried anyway, it was hard to get very close to.
I checked my photos, and sure enough, found a folder called "2004_04_07 Albino Squirrel."
I wonder if it was Whitey? I would probably have to assume so, it's not like albino squirrels are all that common. So in memoriam, here's a picture of Whitey in happier times:

I guess being all white isn't the greatest camouflage. Sorry bud. Actually if that WAS him in 2004, I'm kind of impressed he lasted this long!
Apparently he has a Facebook page too, but if you want to find that you can do it on your own.
